Can I get some opinions?
« on: September 18, 2016, 11:43:33 AM »
These are songs I wrote and recorded on my setup.   I don't really have anyone versed in recording techniques to help me,  so I appreciate feedback. This is just me and a guitar.  I am using the following:

PC laptop
Focusrite Scarlet 18i8
Mixcraft 7 Pro
Vocal mic: Blue Bluebird (LDC)
Guitar mics: (SDC) MXL V67N and a Shure (can't remember the model),  XY pattern at 12th fret
Monitors: JBL 5"
Mastering software: Ozone 7

I'm no professional (obviously!)  and don't have any great aspirations other than to just make my songs sound better.   In other words,  it's just a hobby.

Song 1: The Wall

Song 2: Galacia

I appreciate any help.

It's just my amature opinion, but the vox at the beginning comes out really loud in the mix! It then drops down to a more reasonable level in comparison to the guitar. I think you have it about right at the end to the song. Put some light Reverb or Chorus on it and maybe do a slight frequency cut at the 3k mark. Other than that, sounds fine! The guitar has a nice dry, "natural feel."

PS: This was in reference to "The Wall."
Ciao for now~!

Ok for "Galacia" we have better vocal-to-guitar levels here! I'd just do the same on the vox: Light Reverb or Chorus & a slight frequency cut at the 3k mark. Sounds fine!
Ciao for now~!
